Artists: Staci Ludwig and Tom Burke

Staci and Tom present a series on living in an urban landscape oscillating between the real and unreal, the past and future, the masculine and feminine, the binary and non-binary, human constructs and nature, the tangible and digital, and the various networks that bind us all together. The series fuses together acrylic paintings and interactive projected imagery created with various technologies and code.

This is an interact and immersive art installation that explores the vibes, frequencies, oscillations of an urban network.

Staci and Tom discovered that they both started out in the arts, transitioned to similar jobs in software, only to return to their true passion of art in recent years.  This shared experience prompted them to collaborate for the 2023 Spring Art Crawl.  Oscillations Urbaines is their second collaboration.

Staci Ludwig is a St.Paul-based digital artist experimenting with different technologies to create art that explores how technology impacts our lives.  Her current exploration combines her passion for coding and art to generate reactive and interactive installations for art, music, and celebratory events.   In her early adult life Staci ran light for local bands discovering how lights can support the mood of the music.  She went to school for 3D animation learning 3DStudio, SoftImage, Wavefront, Corel suite, and PhotoShop, but ended up in Web Technologies, UX, Accessibility and ERP applications implementations and development.   She is currently a software developer for UC Berkeley and aspires to do code art full time.

While Thomas Burke’s work is influenced by early 20th century art movements, he utilizes contemporary Web3 technologies to market and sell his art. The Artist had a passion for art and was an avid painter during his teenage years on St. Paul’s East Side. Putting his artistic ambitions aside, he followed a conventional bourgeois path as an adult. After studying Philosophy, the Artist obtained an MBA at the University of Minnesota and squandered his energies serving the masters of global capitalism. With the onset of the pandemic in 2020, he transitioned to his encore career and once again enjoys the freedom to create art in St. Paul.
